Robert G. Cole High School classes of 1972-1975 are having a reunion on October 11, 12, & 13th 2013. Please note, that Monday October the 14th is the Columbus Day holiday. A few classmates of 1973 were talking about a 40th reunion. After some discussion with various classmates, there was considerable interest, and it was decided that we should have a Forty-ish Reunion for classes 1972-1975. There does seem to be a particular bond for the classmates of these years. Considering the small size of our graduating classes, expanding the graduating classes makes for a better overall turn out. Although we are concentrating on these class years, the reunion is open to any classmates, teachers, coaches, and former Cole students, even if you didn’t graduate from Cole.
Friday Night October 11th there is a gathering at George Becknell’s house in Alamo Heights. We will have beer and wine and catered food. Casual/comfortable dress. Cole does have a home football game that evening. There is no plan to attend as a group. However, if someone really wants to see a Cole HS football game, they can attend if they desire.
Saturday evening, October 12th, there is a buffet dinner and sock-hop/letter jacket dance at the Community Center on Ft. Sam Houston. The Community Center was the NCO club at the time we were in high school. During the day Saturday there will be a tour of Cole High School. Some of the older stuff is there, but there is lots of new stuff to see as well. We are also trying to arrange a bus tour of Ft Sam Houston during the day Saturday as well. Casual dress.
Sunday, October 12th we are planning a guided water taxi tour on the San Antonio River. The river has expanded considerably over the years and there is much to see. After the tour we will have lunch at Rio Rio Cantina, on the San Antonio River Walk. Casual dress.
We have some rooms reserved at the Holiday Inn River Walk for those who need a reservation. The hotel is only 4 miles from Ft. Sam Houston, close to Alamo Heights, within walking distance to the guided water taxi tour on the San Antonio River. There is a block of 20 rooms reserved for our event. They have offered room rates of $99 per night, which is very generous for staying on the River Walk in San Antonio. It is important that you make your reservations ASAP. We can extend the block to add more rooms, but that is based on availability. There will be less availability as we get closer to the reunion date. Click on the hotel tab for more information.
Please let us know if you have any contact information of other classmates. That includes addresses, emails, facebook info, telephone number, etc.
Reunion committee members are: George Becknell, Sybel (Lopez) Pici, Glennis (Lopez) Bryce, Dee Dee Sims, Lynda (Sovers) Marazzini, Bobi (Schwartz) Kernan, Betsy (Freshley) Childers, and Doug Childer
If you have any pictures that you would like to share (past or current), please email them to Doug Childers at dchilders@gvtc.com.
